About Jennerosity Projects

I’ve always loved the idea of journaling and preserving the events of my life for the future. I’ve also always long been a fan of inspirational blogs where the author shares their passion and knowledge with their audience. My dream has been to be a blogger who has some meaningful content to share but my first attempt at blogging was more of a personal journal detailing the minutia of my life. I wanted my blog to be something more.

I took a break from blogging and started thinking about what else I could do with the blog. It coincided with the end of 2007 when I was reflecting on the year that had passed and planning some new goals and projects for 2008. I send out a newsletter to some friends and family to keep them updated on what has happened and we had gotten a few impressed comments from people who had seen everything we achieved in 2007. It was then that I realized that I should be chronicling the projects that keep my so busy throughout the year.

I started imagining my goals and priorities in three categories – big rocks, medium rocks, and little rocks. My last blog had been about the little rocks but this one I plan on focusing only on the medium and big ones. These are the things that make me feel proud and that I feel are important events in my life and so I am going to share them with the world.

My Projects

1. The Big Rocks

I first learned of the concept of a Life List in grade 11 at high school. We had to take a class called Career and Personal Planning and our teacher was always trying to make us think of ways to get the most out of life. She shared with us the story of John Goddard as it had been published in Chicken Soup for the Soul and gave us the challenge to come up with our own life list of goals and accomplishments. While many of my classmates groaned, my imagination was set alight with inspiration and I’ve maintained my life list ever since.  (To find mine you’ll need to locate the link to the wiki in the right sidebar.  Then scroll down the list and look for ‘Jennerosity’s List.’)

My list has since gone through several different revisions and been sorted and resorted. I’ve crossed a number of things off of that original list and created a new list that incorporates many things that never would have entered my 16 year old head. It continues to be a constant source of motivation and inspiration for myself.

2. Medium Rocks

I have a rather wide variety of interests in life. I enjoy technical and academic pursuits as well as working with my hands and creating new things. However, because I’m so busy, I have started a great many projects just to get sidetracked and end up leaving the project sitting half finished. I have great intentions of returning to these projects but they lack the urgency of all my day-to-day chores and essentials.

There are also a great many things that I know I *should* do. I *should* have a family emergency kit. I *should* save my photographs in photo albums. I *should* insulate my garage to make it more energy efficient. These are projects that don’t capture my imagination in quite the same way as the ‘big rocks’ but are things I still feel important enough to direct my energy towards completing.

3. Little Rocks

I’m hoping that my little rocks will not be getting much blog time here. These are the daily essential chores that get done in order to function effectively in life. We all have them. While these tasks are absolutely essential to a successful and productive life, I don’t want to spend a lot of time documenting and sharing them with the rest of the world.
